When people die, their loved ones often hold funerals. Funerals are a way of celebrating that the person lived and was cared for. They are sad events but they are a good way for family and loved ones to get closure. In our society, funerals are part of the birth, life, and death cycle.
The only problem with funerals is that a lot of families find that the expenses can really add up. It costs money to bury the dead. Between the car that is needed to transport the body, the use of the funeral home, finding a church to perform the funeral ceremony, and the entertaining that usually takes place afterwards, funerals are definitely something that a lot of people wish they could do without.
But, most funeral expenses may be a little unnecessary and there are definitely ways that people can cut costs. Even the box where the body is buried can be expensive. It is nice if you can afford the expenses, but if not, there are ways you can cut costs. For example, the after funeral reception does not need to take place at a restaurant or function hall. Money can be saved by having it at someone’s house.
It is important to understand that not all elements of funerals are necessary either. Do you really need to have two times for people to view the body? Do you really need to have a “wake” which is usually a reception that takes place the day before the funeral? Some of these things are just extra expenses that may not be necessary. But, some people find comfort in this ceremony.
At first glance, it may look like funerals are designed for the dead. But if you think about it, they are really ways for the living to get closure. We want to celebrate and remember those we love. People share stories and thoughts on the deceased. They pay honor to their memory at funerals. When people go to the funeral, it is a way to celebrate and express how they were loved. But, not everyone can afford them. If this is the case than they can either ask family members to help them or cut costs.
