Our lives go through cycles. There is birth, life, and then death. It is natural. Most people manage to put the idea of their own death out of their mind. Everybody handles it differently. Some people are indifferent. Others decide not to think about it. But there are certain people who have a fear of death. The thought of it makes them nervous. They have a clinical, diagnosable fear.

People who have a fear of death may notice that every time they think about death they get nervous. Their heart starts to beat. They get into a state of panic. Often, it takes them a while to calm down. Some people have a fear of heights, others of clowns. People who have a fear of death become paralyzed at the thought of death and not just of their own. They dread the death of loved ones and friends, and they also don’t like to see images of death.

The fear of death can have varying degrees of severity. Some people have a minor fear and they can usually deal with topics of death, they just don’t deal with them well or just get a little nervous. Then there are the people at the opposite end of that who are so paralyzed by it that they can’t even function. There are also plenty of people in between that.

Either way, if you are one of those who have a fear of death, it is worthwhile to seek counseling for it. There are plenty of people who have worked through their fears and are now cured of them. The key is to find a therapist who focuses on helping people get rid of their fears. It is even better if you find a therapist who specializes in the fear of death.

If you need to find a therapist, your best bet is to ask around until you find a specialist. It may be a good start to see a generalized therapist and then get a referral. Therapists and counselors are all part of the same circle and they usually know each other. They can refer you to the best experts that they know of. If not, you can probably find the information online or just by asking around.
